Oscar de Wit (1935) was born in Bandung on the island of Java in Indonesia (the former ‘Dutch Indies’). He studied psychology at Utrecht University and worked as a researcher and education reformer in Amsterdam for many years. He eventually developed himself into an author (his book 'Met koele obsessie' was awarded the ‘Lucy B. en C.W. van der Hoogt award’ in 1980) and visual artist. He started working as an artist in Paris in 1975 where he regularly exhibited at ‘Galerie Jean Briance’. At that time he also created his comics for the magazine Charlie Mensuel in which he portrayed his alter ego Leonardo Morpion. In 1977 he joined members of the group ‘Panique’ at their group exhibition at Messidor. He continued working in Paris until 1982 and has since then returned almost yearly to paint, have his etchings printed and meet his dear friends in his beloved France.

Expositions include: Festival d'Automne, Fondation Rothschild, Paris 1976 - Trait pour trait, Galerie Jean Briance, Paris 1976 - FIAC, Paris 1977 (Groupe Panique) - Salon de Mai 1982 - Musée-Galerie de la Seita, Paris 1983 - Espace Accattone, Paris 2006, Galerie Markt 21, Weimar 2007, Provincial House Haarlem 2011.

Work in public collections: Centraal Museum Utrecht, Stedelijk Museum Amsterdam, Rijksmuseum Amsterdam, University of Amsterdam, Leiden University, Royal Library of the Netherlands (National Library of the Netherlands, The Hague), Cabinet des Estampes de la Bibliothèque Nationale de France (Paris).
